As part of the “Fly to Baku. Art Weekend. Sense the Future NOW” festival, a special program will be presented at the “Surakhani” Ship Museum from October 31 to November 2. During the festival days, visitors will have the opportunity to watch the feature film “Shovkat”, dedicated to Shovkat Salimova, Azerbaijan’s first female ship captain. In addition, a unique exhibition will showcase the inspiring life and career of the trailblazing captain. The program will also include thematic guided tours led by the museum’s professional guides. Throughout the tour, guests will learn fascinating facts about the history of the Caspian Sea and national shipping, the origins of oil production on the Absheron Peninsula, and the development of maritime navigation from the world’s first ships and sea giants to navigation instruments, ancient marine knots, and ship operation equipment. Visitors will also enjoy interactive and technological experiences. Thanks to cutting-edge digital solutions applied throughout the “Surakhani” Ship Museum, guests can independently perform docking maneuvers using gaming simulators and become direct “participants” in a 360-degree video installation. Hosted aboard the world’s first tanker-ship museum, this program offers visitors an immersive experience that blends the heroism of Azerbaijani sailors with the harmony of technology and art in a contemporary museum setting.
